Advanced ESOL Community Learning 

Course Overview

This is a course for ESOL learners wanting to further develop and improve their English skills for life  through interesting and interactive modules/topics.

 

All four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) are practiced using everyday topics and situations. Learners will develop further understanding of the English grammar, reading techniques and communicate effectively, use language flexibly and effectively for social academic and professional purposes.

Resources and materials are provided relevant to the work covered and notes are encouraged, as well as small amounts of homework.

This course will enable you to write confidently in a range of everyday and formal situations. You will consider the use of sentence grammar and punctuation to ensure you communicate effectively and clearly.

Using everyday situations with regard to be speaking and listening, we will practice giving short explanations and descriptions in a range of tenses. We will look at when and where formal language is needed in some common situations. We will practice ways to listen for the identify new and relevant information in a range of discussions and presentations. We will also look at how body language works, gestures and facial expressions can help explain how we feel and help us understand how others feel too.

English is assessed on registering for the course usually in the first week

Further courses in English are available with accredited testing.

How Will I Be Assessed?

Assessment will be through a workbook including various tasks, covering speaking and listening, reading and writing.

This course is subsidised by the Government through its Adult Skills Budget.

Courses are started on a regular basis around the community. Learners should contact the Enable office to discuss or register for this course and ensure it is appropriate for their needs.

All staff involved in the delivery of adult education courses within Enable are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.
